Boa Viagem beach in Recife is one of the most popular beaches in the whole country of Brazil. Boa Viagem is a middle class neighborhood located in Recife, which is the capital city of the state of Pernambuco. Boa Viagem is is a quaint neighborhood but the biggest attraction is the beach.

Boa Viagem beach draws visitors from all over the world, and it is considered a terrific tourist location. Part of the beach is protected by a line of natural reefs that provide a barrier. The beach at Boa Viagem in Recife has pure white sand with turquoise green water that is warm and crystal clear. The beach is located at the southern point of the city of Recife.

The beach itself has become famous and has been featured on television and in movies depicting the beach scene in Brazil. Swimming in the waters at Boa Viagem beach is only allowed where the reefs are protecting the area. In the areas where swimming is allowed, surfing is not. There are pools of beautiful blue water that form on Boa Viagem beach where there is only a small strip between the reefs and the white sand.

There is no cooking allowed on the beach at all, and no exceptions are made. There are kiosks on the sidewalk that sell a variety of treats such as soft drinks, snacks, coconuts, and juices. Kiosks are not allowed on the sand, however, only the sidewalks. On the sand refreshments are gotten in one of two ways. The first is called a barraca, and these are considered informal businesses on the beaches of  Brazil. The owner of the barraca will place a few seats in their area and serve customers who sit down. The owner does not charge for sitting down as long as the patron buys something from them. The second method is the ambulantes, who are people who wander along the beach selling novelties, souveneirs, food, drinks, and a large variety of other tourist stuff. A word of caution, however, to visitors of Boa Viagem beach in Recife. Do not go beyond the reefs as there have been shark attacks in the open water.
